Summer baseball is back in Sanford, and the 2026 edition of the Spinners comes with a new address. For the first time in the club’s five-year modern history, the Sanford Spinners Baseball Club will call Lee County High School home, marking the start of a fresh chapter for one of the Old North State League’s most community-rooted franchises.
The move follows several successful seasons played at Southern Lee High School and Tramway Park, where the Spinners launched their modern revival in 2020. According to the organization, the decision to relocate was driven by long-term operational needs, logistics, and overall fit within the community — with a clear goal of positioning the club for continued growth in the ONSL.
“The move keeps the team rooted in Sanford and Lee County while positioning the club for continued growth within the Old North State League.”
A New Field, Better Facilities
The Spinners aren’t just moving in — they’re investing. The organization is funding brand-new backstop netting, batting cage netting, and pitching tunnel netting at Lee County High School. These upgrades are targeted for completion before the Yellow Jackets’ own season begins, benefiting both the Spinners and the high school program throughout the year.
The team is also working with the ONSL and Lee County High School administration on the potential installation of advanced camera technology at the venue. If approved, the system would provide automated game filming capabilities for player development, scouting, and expanded live viewing access — and could be shared with Lee County’s baseball program.
Cornerstone K9 & Central Carolina Hospital Headline Sponsors
The Spinners enter 2026 with strong sponsorship backing. Cornerstone K9 returns as the Official Uniform Sponsor, continuing a partnership that puts the brand front and center on every player jersey. Central Carolina Hospital also returns as the Official On-Field Hat Sponsor and Game Day Medical Provider, reinforcing the team’s commitment to player safety and community health.
MEET MICKEY THE BAT DOG
The 2026 home opener will feature the debut of Mickey the Bat Dog — the newest and furriest member of the Spinners organization. Mickey will be on the field retrieving bats and winning hearts throughout the season.
About the Old North State League
The Sanford Spinners compete in the Old North State League, a collegiate summer wooden bat baseball circuit featuring teams from across North Carolina. The ONSL gives college-level players a summer platform to develop their skills outside of their university programs. The league spans 24 teams from the Waynesville Hollers in the mountains to the Oak Island Loggerheads on the coast. Games are streamed live at fpsn.watch.
A Proud Baseball History
The Spinners name carries deep roots in Sanford. The club originally operated as a professional minor league team, competing in the Class D Bi-State League and Tobacco State League from 1941 to 1950 — winning league championships in 1942 and 1946. The “Spinners” nickname was a nod to the local textile industry, as Sanford was home to the Seaboard Milling Company beginning in 1915.
After more than 70 years of dormancy, the name was revived in 2020 and the modern Spinners hit the field for the first time in July 2021. In just a few seasons the club has established itself as a genuine summer tradition in Lee County.
