Jackets Pick Up Win Against Western Harnett 40-6
The Lee County Yellow Jackets earned a Carolina Pines 6A Conference win Friday night against Western Harnett 40-6 at Paul Gay Stadium in Sanford. Lee County got the only score of the first half on 1-yard run by Brandon Caldwell but opened the gates in the 3rd quarter and rolled to a convincing win. Lee County would score quickly to open the 3rd on a 27-yard pass to Javonte Randall to go ahead 13-0. The Eagles would answer with their only score of the night, but the Yellow Jackets would take only 29 seconds to answer on a 58-yard pass to Destry Smith. Lee County would add 3 more scores – two by RB Zach Williams – and Lee County would pull away.
Lee County rolled up 391 yards of total offense as Zach Williams would rush for 146 on 25 carries to lead the Jacket rushing attack and QB Reed Douglas would look sharp with 10 of 13 passing for 214 yards and 2 TDs. Destry Smith, Jaysiyah Collins and Javonte Randall would have 3 catches each as the taller Jacket receivers took advantage of the Eagle secondary.
Lee County improves to 1-2 in league play and will host South Johnston (1-2) next Friday at Paul Gay Stadium on the Lee County campus.
